We created Alawyer as legal research kept expanding.
Three people. One focused product. Made for the German-speaking legal market.
Legal AI built to understand ABGB and BGB.
General-purpose language models can read German, but they miss the material difference between a Geschäftsführer’s and a Vorstand’s fiduciary duties. They can also treat an ABGB liability clause as equivalent to a BGB clause when it is not. Alawyer was founded on understanding that distinction.
Our training corpus includes BGH and OGH decisions, Austrian and German commercial law, and contract clauses annotated and reviewed by practicing attorneys. This is not a general-purpose foundation with legal features added. It is a domain-specific model developed for this work.
The people behind Alawyer.
Our team brings direct experience in legal practice, applied NLP, and legal technology product development in DACH.
Wolfgang Deutschmann
CEO & Co-Founder
Wolfgang Deutschmann practiced commercial law at a mid-size DACH corporate firm before entering legal technology. His M&A due diligence work in Austria helped shape Alawyer's core contract review architecture.
Tobias Brandt
CTO & Co-Founder
Tobias Brandt is an applied NLP researcher with information retrieval experience at a German-language academic institution. At Alawyer, he leads the legal model and case law retrieval pipeline for clause-level precedent search.
Sophia Kessler
Lead Legal Advisor
Austrian attorney specializing in data protection and commercial contracts. Her role at Alawyer bridges legal accuracy and product development: she reviews model outputs against actual case law, maintains the clause annotation library, and advises on GDPR compliance architecture.
Our view of AI and legal practice.
We cover fewer jurisdictions than broad-market legal AI tools, with greater accuracy. Our scope includes BGH, OGH, and German-speaking Swiss courts. We will add no jurisdiction until its coverage is reliable.
Attorney confidentiality is more than a compliance checkbox. It informed our architecture. Firm isolation is not a setting added later, but a principle built into the system from the storage layer upward.
Alawyer identifies, categorizes, and explains, but does not advise. The attorney decides what to do with a flagged clause. Our output gives that judgment structured input, not a substitute for it.
Headquartered in Graz, Austria.
Alawyer GmbH is registered and headquartered in Graz, Austria. Building a legal AI product there was deliberate. Austria sits between German BGB practice and Austrian ABGB specificity, giving us direct exposure to both systems from the beginning.
Frankfurt hosts our infrastructure, keeping data in the EU under German and Austrian data protection law.
